UNMISS peacekeepers denied access to conflict-affected Wonduruba
Juba, 11 November 2024: Since April 2024, UNMISS peacekeepers and other organizations have been denied access to Wonduruba in Central Equatoria, where civilians have been killed and displaced during outbreaks of violence. In October and November, three patrols were turned back by security forces at checkpoints. While UNMISS carries out most patrols across the country unimpeded, there is a worrying trend in peacekeepers being prevented from accessing certain conflict hotspots, which is impacting the mission's ability to protect civilians, deter violence, and build peace.
